Monitor LinkedIn

LinkedIn is where B2B switching decisions get announced in public — “we moved our twelve-person team off X last month” — and it is the platform the cheap end of this category cannot reach.

[01] WHAT FISHOUT COLLECTS/ LINKEDIN

What gets collected

Public posts, with the author’s name, read through LinkedIn’s logged-out search. Comments are not searched, and a very busy term is covered only in part.

And the conversation around it

None: a LinkedIn post arrives on its own, which is usually enough, because the post is where the buying signal is.

Who is on LinkedIn

The people who sign off on purchases. LinkedIn skews to decision-makers announcing changes rather than practitioners asking questions, so the signal is different from Reddit’s: less “what should I buy”, more “here is what we just did”.

Worth knowing

Only public posts are collected. Anything inside a private group, a connection-only post or a DM is out of scope, and always will be.
[02] WHAT YOU FIND THERE/ TRIAGED

Real LinkedIn mentions, as FishOut reads them

Every post is read against your project's Brief: a relevance from 0 to 100 with Why chips saying what drove it, and labels such as Asking for recommendations or Complaint. Posts below the threshold go to Filtered with a reason and never count toward your plan. The examples here are illustrative.
LinkedIn89

We moved our twelve-person sales team off Notchmail last month. We are trialling AcmeMail and one other. I would take a straight answer over a demo call.

[03] WHAT TO TRACK/ KEYWORDS

Keyword shapes that work on LinkedIn

The same three keywords do not work everywhere. What finds buyers on LinkedIn is different from what finds them on Reddit or in the trade press, and getting this wrong is the most common reason a listening tool goes unread.

Competitor names, above everything else

LinkedIn's characteristic post is “we moved off X”. A competitor keyword here surfaces switching decisions at the moment they are announced, usually by the person who made them.

“we switched”, “we moved off”, “we replaced”

Phrase keywords work better than product keywords on LinkedIn, because the post is usually about the decision rather than the tool.

Your own brand, for the reply you owe

A LinkedIn mention of your product is often a customer publicly saying something good. Those are worth answering within the day, and they are the easiest reply you will write all week.

What to watch LinkedIn for

The keyword shapes, relevance floors and routing differ by what you are looking for, so each of these is its own setup rather than a filter on this page.
