Monitor X (Twitter)

X still produces more raw brand mentions than anywhere else, and the highest ratio of noise to signal. It is the platform where reading every post for relevance earns its place.

[01] WHAT FISHOUT COLLECTS/ X

What gets collected

Public posts, including replies and quote posts, read through X’s logged-out search once a day. Reposts are dropped, and a very busy term is covered only in part.

And the conversation around it

A matched reply is linked to the post it answers when that post is in your project too, because one of your keywords matched it.

Who is on X

Everyone, which is the problem. X is high-volume and low-precision: your brand name will match band names, unrelated products and pure noise, and the useful mentions are a thin layer on top.

Worth knowing

X is where exclude words and the relevance read do the most work. A common-word brand tracked on X without either is a guaranteed way to stop reading your own alerts within a fortnight.
[02] WHAT YOU FIND THERE/ TRIAGED

Real X mentions, as FishOut reads them

Every post is read against your project's Brief: a relevance from 0 to 100 with Why chips saying what drove it, and labels such as Asking for recommendations or Complaint. Posts below the threshold go to Filtered with a reason and never count toward your plan. The examples here are illustrative.
@hollis_rt91

three weeks on AcmeMail and my unread count has been under 20 every single evening. the thing that changed is that it decides what I do not have to read.

[03] WHAT TO TRACK/ KEYWORDS

Keyword shapes that work on X

The same three keywords do not work everywhere. What finds buyers on X is different from what finds them on Reddit or in the trade press, and getting this wrong is the most common reason a listening tool goes unread.

Your brand, with exclude words and a Means line from day one

This is the platform where a common-word brand drowns you. Add the collisions you can name before the inbox fills, not after you have learned to ignore it.

Your support handle and common misspellings

People complain at the name they remember, not the handle you own. Tracking the misspellings catches the complaints that never reach your mentions tab.

Competitor outage and pricing language

“X is down” and “X raised prices” spread on X faster than anywhere else, and the window to be useful is measured in hours.

What to watch X for

The keyword shapes, relevance floors and routing differ by what you are looking for, so each of these is its own setup rather than a filter on this page.
