Monitor X for buyer intent

Catch the frustration that precedes a switch. Low intent per post, high value per hour, and the fastest platform to react on.

[01] THE JOB/ BUYER INTENT

What buyer intent means

Finding people who are describing the problem you solve, asking for a recommendation, or comparing named products — usually without mentioning your brand at all.

What it looks like on X

X intent is mostly negative and mostly about somebody else. The characteristic post is a complaint about an incumbent, written in frustration rather than as a question — "third time this week X has dropped a thread" — and the buying signal is in the emotion rather than the request. Occasionally somebody asks their followers outright, which is high intent and moves fast. The platform rewards speed above everything: a reply within the hour gets read, and a reply the next day does not exist.

What X will not give you

X is where exclude words and the relevance read do the most work. A common-word brand tracked on X without either is a guaranteed way to stop reading your own alerts within a fortnight.

What FishOut collects from X

Public posts, including replies and quote posts, read through X’s logged-out search once a day. Reposts are dropped, and a very busy term is covered only in part.
[02] WHAT TO TRACK/ KEYWORDS

Keyword shapes for buyer intent on X

A keyword tuned for this job on another platform is usually silent here, because the same person writes differently in each place. The example beneath is read the way FishOut reads one: a relevance bar and the label it would carry.
keywords · x
competitor name plus frustration

The dominant shape. "down again", "still broken", "cancelling" alongside a rival’s name is the cleanest signal X produces.

asking followers

"anyone know a good", "recommendations for". Rare, high intent, and it disappears within a day.

your own name plus a complaint word

The other half of the job. X is where dissatisfaction with your own product becomes public first, and where it is cheapest to answer.

Third time this week our shared inbox has dropped a thread. Anyone got something that actually holds up at volume?

[03] HOW TO SET IT UP/ VIEWS & ROUTING

The configuration that works here

A relevance floor of 80 on its alert channel. X is the platform where the floor should be highest relative to volume, because the ratio of noise to signal is worse than anywhere else — a keyword that produces twenty a day on Reddit will produce two hundred here. The built-in Switchers view — competitor keyword, labelled Complaint or negative sentiment — is the recipe. Be realistic about speed: X is a premium platform checked once a day, and a very busy term is read only in part.

And what to do with what arrives

A reply, from a human, in the thread, while it is still live. Work it from the Leads and Reply now views, draft in your Voice, assign to a person — FishOut never posts.
[04] THE COMMON MISTAKE/ AVOID THIS

Setting the relevance floor at the same level as everywhere else

A relevance floor of 70 is sensible on Reddit and catastrophic on X, where the same keyword produces ten times the volume at a worse ratio. What happens next is predictable: the channel becomes unreadable within a fortnight, somebody mutes it, and nobody notices that X has effectively stopped being monitored. Set it at 80 or above from the start.
