Monitor LinkedIn for buyer intent

Find the buyer rather than the user. Slower and more considered than the forums, and attributable to a company and a job title.

[01] THE JOB/ BUYER INTENT

What buyer intent means

Finding people who are describing the problem you solve, asking for a recommendation, or comparing named products — usually without mentioning your brand at all.

What it looks like on LinkedIn

LinkedIn intent looks nothing like Reddit intent. Nobody asks "is there anything that" on LinkedIn — the equivalent is a post announcing a problem as a strategic priority, or a comment under someone else’s post naming what their team evaluated. It is slower, more considered, and less honest, because it is written where colleagues can read it. What it has that no other platform does is attribution: the person is named, their employer is named, and their job title tells you whether they sign the cheque. For anything sold to a job title rather than a practitioner, that is worth the lower volume.

What LinkedIn will not give you

Only public posts are collected. Anything inside a private group, a connection-only post or a DM is out of scope, and always will be.

What FishOut collects from LinkedIn

Public posts, with the author’s name, read through LinkedIn’s logged-out search. Comments are not searched, and a very busy term is covered only in part.
[02] WHAT TO TRACK/ KEYWORDS

Keyword shapes for buyer intent on LinkedIn

A keyword tuned for this job on another platform is usually silent here, because the same person writes differently in each place. The example beneath is read the way FishOut reads one: a relevance bar and the label it would carry.
keywords · linkedin
the problem framed as an initiative

"we are consolidating our", "moving away from", "evaluating options for". LinkedIn phrasing is corporate, and the keyword has to match the register.

competitor names in comments

The most reliable intent on LinkedIn is somebody naming a tool in a comment thread about a category. It is where evaluations get discussed in the open.

role and category together

Watching "head of support" alongside your category surfaces people describing the problem from the buying seat rather than the using seat.

We are consolidating three support tools into one this quarter. Interested in what other teams our size settled on — the helpdesk options all feel too heavy.

[03] HOW TO SET IT UP/ VIEWS & ROUTING

The configuration that works here

A relevance floor of 75 on a sales channel, and drafts written from the Leads view, because the reply here is a comment rather than a post and it is read by the author’s network as well as the author. FishOut checks LinkedIn once a day, and that is fine — a LinkedIn post has a longer half-life than a Hacker News thread, and a considered reply two days later is not too late.

And what to do with what arrives

A reply, from a human, in the thread, while it is still live. Work it from the Leads and Reply now views, draft in your Voice, assign to a person — FishOut never posts.
[04] THE COMMON MISTAKE/ AVOID THIS

Reusing the Reddit keywords

The same person writes completely differently in the two places — colloquially where they are anonymous, corporately where their colleagues can see. A keyword set tuned on Reddit phrasing returns almost nothing on LinkedIn, and the usual conclusion drawn is that LinkedIn has no intent on it. It has intent; the vocabulary is just different, and it has to be watched in the register people actually use.
