Comparison

FishOut vs Google Alerts

Google Alerts is free, universal, and genuinely good at what it does — watching Google’s index for news, blogs and web pages in 240 regions and 47 languages. It also gives you no way to ask for Reddit, X, LinkedIn or any other platform, because none of them is an option.

Google Alerts facts checked on 20 October 2026, from their own published material. Sources are listed at the foot of this page.

[03] WHERE GOOGLE ALERTS IS STRONGER/ HONESTLY
Google Alerts is free web and news alerts from Google’s own index, and there are things it does that we do not.

Reach no paid tool matches, for nothing

240 region options and 47 languages. For monitoring a non-English market or one specific country, Alerts is legitimately best in class on targeting — and it costs nothing.

It queries Google’s own index

News, web, blogs, books and finance coverage is the actual Google crawl, the broadest corpus that exists. For long-tail news and obscure websites, Alerts routinely finds things paid tools miss.

No limits, no setup, no contract

No published cap on alerts, no seats, no quota, no trial clock. It takes seconds to set up with a Google account. As a baseline safety net it is unbeatable, and it is the honest recommendation for anyone not ready to pay for anything.
[04] WHERE FISHOUT WINS/ WITH PROOF

You cannot ask it for a platform

The Alerts form offers eight source types — automatic, news, blogs, web, video, books, discussions, finance. None of them is a platform: no Reddit, no X, no LinkedIn, no TikTok, no YouTube. Anything from those places arrives only if Google happens to have indexed the page, and that is not a coverage guarantee — X blocks realtime search from crawlers outright, and Reddit reaches Google through a licensing arrangement rather than open crawling. The conversations where people ask for recommendations are simply not in scope.

Triage instead of a mailbox

Alerts offers "only the best results" or "all results" and exposes no score, no ranking and no reason. FishOut gives every post a relevance from 0 to 100 against your Brief, shows why, and moves the noise to a Filtered view with its reason.

Somewhere for it to go

Alerts delivers to your email or to an RSS feed you poll — no API, no webhooks, no push to Slack or anywhere else, no MCP server, no team, no assignment, no status. FishOut is a queue your team works, with 13 alert destinations and an API and MCP server on every plan including Free.

And the reply

Alerts has no reply surface of any kind. FishOut drafts a response for every mention worth answering, in your Voice, and stops so you send it yourself.

Six people and one shared inbox is the exact shape where filters stop helping, because the problem is not sorting, it's deciding.

I work on AcmeMail — it sorts the inbox by what needs you, so you read the fifteen that matter.

What you get instead of Google Alerts

The posts Google Alerts would have shown you, plus the ones on Hacker News, Bluesky and GitHub, already read: relevance with its reason, a label, a Reply call and a draft you post yourself.

For a team without anyone to maintain a script, the off-the-shelf version is a shared inbox with assignment rules. I work on one (AcmeMail); the author’s approach is great if you have the engineer.
