Platforms

The ten sources FishOut monitors, what it collects from each, and the limits each platform imposes.

FishOut watches ten platforms. How often each is checked depends on the platform and your plan:

PlatformWhat gets collectedChecked
RedditPosts and comments, with the subredditHourly on every plan
Hacker NewsStories and commentsHourly on every plan
BlueskyPosts and repliesHourly on every plan
GitHubIssues and pull requests, by title and body, with the repoHourly on every plan

MediumArticles, from Medium's own searchEvery 6 hours, paid plans
TikTokVideos, by captionDaily, paid plans, premium

XPublic posts, including replies and quote postsDaily, paid plans, premium

Keywords you mark Fast are checked every 15 minutes on Reddit, Hacker News and Bluesky. Each keyword on LinkedIn, TikTok or X uses one of your plan's premium placements. See Plans.

Replies and what they answer

A comment is often unreadable alone. "Same here, we moved off them last month" tells you nothing until you see the post it answers. When that post is in your project too, because it matched one of your keywords, the reply shows which post it answers and links to it.

Articles, videos and LinkedIn posts stand alone.

Busy terms on LinkedIn and X

LinkedIn and X are read through their logged-out search, which returns a limited number of posts per check. Each daily check reads the last day's posts until that limit, so a quiet or specific term is covered fully, and a very busy one only in part. For a busy term, track a more specific phrase on these two platforms, and keep the bare term on the platforms where its volume is manageable (choosing platforms per keyword).

Only public content

FishOut collects what the platform publishes openly and what its terms and API permit. Nothing comes from a private account, a closed group, a DM, or anywhere that needs a login to read — including any account of your own. See Security and data.

Coverage changes

Platforms change their terms, their rate limits and their access, sometimes without notice. When a source becomes restricted we say so rather than quietly collecting less from it. If coverage on a platform matters to your decision to buy, ask us what it looks like today rather than relying on this page.

Choosing platforms per keyword

You do not have to run every keyword everywhere — and usually should not. Platform selection is a property of the keyword, and so are the source filters that keep or skip particular subreddits, channels, repos or publications.

Reply call coverage

The Reply call — whether a post is worth answering — is given on Reddit, Hacker News and YouTube. Posts on the other platforms get relevance, labels, sentiment and language, without a Reply call.
