[01] THE JOB/ COMPETITOR MENTIONS

What competitor mentions means

Watching what is said about the tools you sell against — launches, price changes, outages, and the people leaving them.

What it looks like on Reddit

Reddit is where people say what they actually think about the tool they pay for, because the audience is strangers rather than colleagues. The valuable shapes are the migration post ("we moved off X after two years, here is what happened"), the price complaint, and the thread where somebody asks whether a competitor is worth it and gets six honest replies. The comments are usually worth more than the post: a migration story attracts people in the same position, and they identify themselves underneath.

What Reddit will not give you

Reddit is strict about self-promotion, and the accounts that get banned are the ones that post automatically from a pool. FishOut drafts a reply and stops — you send it from your own account, disclosing who you are.

[02] WHAT TO TRACK/ KEYWORDS

Keyword shapes for competitor mentions on Reddit

A keyword tuned for this job on another platform is usually silent here, because the same person writes differently in each place. The example beneath is read the way FishOut reads one: a relevance bar and the label it would carry.
keywords · reddit
competitor name on its own

High volume and worth it. On Reddit a bare competitor name catches the migration posts, the price complaints and the "is X worth it" threads in one keyword.

competitor plus leaving language

"moved off", "switching from", "cancelled", "alternative to". The subset of the above that is worth an immediate alert rather than a queue.

competitor plus pricing

Price threads are where a switch gets justified out loud, and where a specific counter-fact is most useful.

We moved off Notchmail last month. Support was great, but the shared inbox fell over above about 300 a day and the price went up twice.

[03] HOW TO SET IT UP/ VIEWS & ROUTING

The configuration that works here

The built-in Switchers view already collects this: competitor keyword, labelled Complaint or negative sentiment. To be told as it happens, write an agent — when a competitor post is labelled Complaint with relevance above 75, notify your competitive channel and draft a reply. Read the comments as well as the post: the person who replies "same, we are looking too" is often the better lead, and a keyword on the competitor name catches both.

And what to do with what arrives

The Switchers view collects it — competitor keyword, labelled Complaint or negative sentiment. An agent you write can post it to a competitive Slack channel with a draft, and into whatever your team uses to keep track of what rivals are doing.
[04] THE COMMON MISTAKE/ AVOID THIS

Reading the post and not the comments

A migration post is the headline; the people replying “same, we are looking too” are the leads. Teams route the post, action it, and never look at the thread again — while the six people who identified themselves underneath go unnoticed. On Reddit the comments are usually worth more than the submission, and a keyword on the competitor name catches both.
