Monitor Reddit for product feedback

What people wish your product did, said to their peers rather than to your feedback form — including the reasons they chose something else.

[01] THE JOB/ PRODUCT FEEDBACK

What product feedback means

Finding what people wish your product did — feature requests, comparisons that name a missing capability, and the workarounds people build because something is absent.

What it looks like on Reddit

The feedback that reaches a form is filtered by whoever cared enough to fill one in, which is a small and unrepresentative group. Reddit feedback is unfiltered and comparative: people explain what they wanted while justifying a choice to strangers, which is a far more useful version. The characteristic shapes are the "I wish X did Y" aside inside a longer post, the comparison comment listing what each tool lacks, and the workaround thread where somebody has built a script to paper over something you should have shipped.

What Reddit will not give you

Reddit is strict about self-promotion, and the accounts that get banned are the ones that post automatically from a pool. FishOut drafts a reply and stops — you send it from your own account, disclosing who you are.

[02] WHAT TO TRACK/ KEYWORDS

Keyword shapes for product feedback on Reddit

A keyword tuned for this job on another platform is usually silent here, because the same person writes differently in each place. The example beneath is read the way FishOut reads one: a relevance bar and the label it would carry.
keywords · reddit
your name plus wish language

"I wish", "if only", "the only thing missing", "would be perfect if". The exact vocabulary of a feature request that will never be filed.

your name plus workaround language

"script", "workaround", "hacked together", "zapier". Somebody automating around a gap is a feature request with a specification attached.

your name alongside a competitor

Comparison comments are where the gaps get enumerated. People are more precise about what you lack when they are justifying a choice.

AcmeMail is fine for us but I wish it could route by keyword. We have a Zap doing it and it breaks about once a fortnight.

[03] HOW TO SET IT UP/ VIEWS & ROUTING

The configuration that works here

A label rather than an alert. Describe one — “Feature request: someone wishes the product did something it does not” — and the AI applies it to every post; save a view on it. This is the one job where the individual mention is worth little and the aggregate is worth a great deal — one person wishing for keyword routing is an anecdote, and thirty over a quarter is a roadmap item. Review the view monthly rather than reacting to each.

And what to do with what arrives

Labelled and collected rather than answered immediately — describe a label such as "Feature request" and the AI applies it, then save the view. This is the one job where the value is in the aggregate rather than the individual mention.
[04] THE COMMON MISTAKE/ AVOID THIS

Reacting to each one

A single person wishing for a feature is an anecdote, and treating it as a signal produces a roadmap driven by whoever posted most recently. The value here is entirely in the aggregate — thirty of them over a quarter is a roadmap item, and the only way to see that is to label rather than alert, and to read the labelled view monthly.
