Monitor Reddit for bug reports

The complaints that never became support tickets, in the subreddits where your users ask each other first.

[01] THE JOB/ BUG REPORTS

What bug reports means

Finding problems with your product reported in public — in a thread, an issue on someone else’s repository, or a complaint that never became a support ticket.

What it looks like on Reddit

Reddit bug reports are the ones your support queue never sees, because the user asked their peers instead of you. The shape is a question rather than a report — "is anyone else’s sync stuck?", "did they change how X works?" — and the answers underneath are where the diagnosis appears, often more accurate than the original post. The particular value is that Reddit tells you what people believe is broken, which is not the same as what is broken, and both are worth knowing: a widely-believed non-bug is a documentation problem.

What Reddit will not give you

Reddit is strict about self-promotion, and the accounts that get banned are the ones that post automatically from a pool. FishOut drafts a reply and stops — you send it from your own account, disclosing who you are.

What FishOut collects from Reddit

Posts and comments across public subreddits, with the subreddit name and the author’s public handle attached.
[02] WHAT TO TRACK/ KEYWORDS

Keyword shapes for bug reports on Reddit

A keyword tuned for this job on another platform is usually silent here, because the same person writes differently in each place. The example beneath is read the way FishOut reads one: a relevance bar and the label it would carry.

your name plus "anyone else"

The characteristic Reddit phrasing for a suspected bug. People check whether it is just them before they file anything.

your name plus symptom words

"stuck", "not syncing", "keeps", "since the update". Symptom vocabulary rather than error codes — Reddit users describe rather than paste.

your product in support-adjacent subreddits

The places your users gather. A mention there is worth more than the same words in a general subreddit.

[03] HOW TO SET IT UP/ VIEWS & ROUTING

The configuration that works here

These collect in the built-in Support view — brand keyword, labelled Question, Complaint or Has a problem. Alert on a relevance floor of 50 into an engineering or support channel, with no draft — but unlike GitHub, this cell often deserves a public reply, because the thread is where other users will look for confirmation. Route it so a human decides whether to answer. A confirmed bug acknowledged publicly on Reddit does more for trust than a status page nobody reads.

And what to do with what arrives

To engineering, with no reply drafted. Write an agent: when a brand post is labelled Has a problem or Complaint, or a label you describe such as "Bug report", assign it to an engineer and send it to a webhook — a tracker, not a brand-voice answer.
[04] THE COMMON MISTAKE/ AVOID THIS

Treating it exactly like the GitHub cell

Same job, opposite handling. A GitHub bug report wants a fix and no reply; a Reddit bug thread is where other affected users will look for confirmation, and a disclosed public acknowledgement does more for trust than a status page. Applying the no-reply rule uniformly leaves a thread of worried customers answering each other with guesses.
