Connect FishOut to OpenClaw

OpenClaw runs your agent in the chat apps you already use, which makes it a natural place for "anything I should answer today?" to arrive. Two settings matter more here than elsewhere: the transport, which defaults to SSE, and whose FishOut account a group-chat agent signs in as.

Setup steps checked against OpenClaw's own documentation on 20 October 2026.

[01] CONNECT IT/ SETUP

Add FishOut to OpenClaw

https://mcp.fishout.ai/mcp, on every plan.
1

Add the server

Stop the local Gateway first — add, tools and doctor --probe need it stopped. Set the transport explicitly: without it OpenClaw assumes SSE, which FishOut does not speak.

bash

openclaw mcp add fishout \
  --url https://mcp.fishout.ai/mcp \
  --transport streamable-http \
  --auth oauth
2

Sign in

Run the login and finish it in your browser: sign in to FishOut, pick the organization and projects, approve. If the browser cannot reach the loopback address — OpenClaw on a server — use the --code form the command prints. An admin can also choose Sign in under Settings → MCP in the Control UI.

bash

openclaw mcp login fishout
3

Prove it is reachable

Saving a server does not test it. doctor --probe connects, lists the tools and reports a refused sign-in as “authentication refused (401)”.

bash

openclaw mcp doctor fishout --probe

Check it worked. doctor --probe should list FishOut’s tools. Then, in whatever chat your agent lives in, ask it how many mentions came in yesterday. If the server is missing from a turn, OpenClaw drops only that server — check the login before anything else.

[02] WORTH KNOWING FIRST/ LIMITS

Before it bites

Stated before you hit them.

Omit transport and OpenClaw uses SSE. Always pass --transport streamable-http, or set transport: "streamable-http" in the config.

By default the OAuth identity is shared: everyone who talks to the agent acts as the account that signed in. In a group chat, set oauth.identity to "per-requester" so each person signs in to FishOut as themselves; it needs gateway.publicOrigin set, and its sign-in links are single-use.

A static Authorization header is ignored while auth is "oauth". Use one or the other.

OpenClaw does not document a tool cap, but 115 tools is a lot of context for a chat model. Use the filter below.

A tighter tool set. toolFilter takes include and exclude lists of names or * globs. This keeps a chat agent to reading.

openclaw config (json5)

{
  mcp: { servers: { fishout: {
    url: "https://mcp.fishout.ai/mcp",
    transport: "streamable-http",
    auth: "oauth",
    toolFilter: { include: ["list_*", "get_*", "count_mentions"] },
  } } },
}

Tried two listening tools, both drowned me in noise

Two. r/Entrepreneur is asking for exactly your category, 3h old. On Bluesky someone is fed up with noisy tools — a good one to answer with how you filter. Reply “draft 1” and I will get a draft for the Reddit one.

[04] WATCH ANY PLATFORM/ SAME SERVER
[05] ON A SCHEDULE/ OPENCLAW

OpenClaw’s scheduler

OpenClaw’s built-in scheduler is automations (openclaw cron is an alias), and the heartbeat runs a main-session turn every 30 minutes by default. Its docs do not say whether an automation can call MCP tools, so test one before relying on it — or let FishOut send the Daily brief and alerts itself.

bash

openclaw automations create

Or let FishOut keep the clock

Alerts and the Daily brief run on FishOut’s side, with no agent involved, and agent rules act on every mention as it is triaged. The scheduled job then only has to do the judging.
