Is there an official Google News MCP server?

Not from Google. The servers listed under that name use SerpAPI or Google News RSS. FishOut is a listening service that collects news for your keywords and serves the results over MCP.

Do I need a SerpAPI or Google API key?

No. You sign in to FishOut with OAuth from your assistant; there is no search-API key anywhere in the setup.

Why did a story about a different company not show up?

Because it was read against your Brief and filtered with the reason Different meaning. Filtered posts never count toward your plan, and your assistant can still see them by passing includeFiltered.

Can I get press mentions without asking?

Yes. Create a notification channel and FishOut sends matching articles to Slack, Teams, Discord, email or a webhook as they arrive — your assistant can set that up for you.

Is Google News on the free plan?

Yes, checked hourly, alongside Reddit, Hacker News, Bluesky and GitHub.
