Why is the title cut short on Chinese posts?

WeCom limits a news title to 128 bytes and a description to 512, and a Chinese character takes three bytes in UTF-8. The card shown here carries a 47-character, mostly Chinese title in a 168-byte description, with room to spare; a long one is clipped at a character boundary with an ellipsis rather than rejected.

Why a news card and not Markdown?

Its title and description are plain text, so nothing in a post title can turn into a mention or a fake link, and the whole card is a tap target into FishOut, where the reply is drafted.

Is WeCom the same as WeChat?

No. WeCom (WeChat Work) is the workplace product with group bots; personal WeChat has no incoming webhook.

Does it need a WeCom admin?

Not usually — group members can add a bot unless your organization restricts it. What it does need is care with the key, because anyone holding the URL can post.

Point FishOut at a group

Add a message-push bot to the group
In the WeCom group, add a group bot (message push) and name it FishOut. Its webhook URL is shown when you create it and on its detail page afterwards.

Copy the URL, and guard the key
The key is the whole credential. WeCom’s own documentation warns that a leaked webhook lets anyone send spam into your group, so keep it out of screenshots and repositories.

Paste it into FishOut
Under Settings → Notifications, add a WeCom channel. The URL must carry exactly one parameter, key. Set a floor and leave batching on — the group takes 20 messages a minute.

WeCom groups are where people coordinate with colleagues and, often, customers, so the bar for interrupting them is high. Set 85. With batching on, a burst costs the group two cards, which keeps you comfortably inside 20 a minute.

Built from the event’s envelope and nothing else, so a retry renders exactly the message the first attempt would have.

WeCom’s limits, not ours

These are WeCom’s constraints, checked against its message-push documentation. Failures are tracked per channel, so one broken destination never stops the others.

A news title may be at most 128 bytes and a description at most 512; WeCom truncates beyond that. In UTF-8 a Chinese character is three bytes, so a CJK title clips at roughly a third of the characters an English one does. FishOut clips to the byte budget itself, at a character boundary. [source]

Each bot may send at most 20 messages a minute. Over it, WeCom answers with errcode 45009. [source]

A news message holds 1 to 8 articles. FishOut sends one per alert, and one for a digest, listing the top posts in its description. [source]

errcode 93000 means the URL is invalid or the bot has been removed from the group — the likeliest reason alerts stop. [source]
