Social listening for go-to-market teams — FishOut

Most tools in this category give a small team a dashboard. A dashboard is a thing somebody has to remember to open, and on a team of four, nobody does. What works is a queue where every row has an owner.

[01] THE JOB/ GO-TO-MARKET TEAMS

What go-to-market teams are actually trying to do

The distinguishing feature of a small go-to-market team is that there is no one whose job is watching. Marketing, sales and support each need a different slice of the same stream, and the slice has to arrive where they already are — otherwise you have bought a fourth tab that nobody opens.
[02] WHERE TO LOOK/ PLATFORMS

Reddit

Where the buying conversation happens without a brand name in it. Category phrases here find people earlier than any brand keyword will, which is the difference between a lead and a bid.

LinkedIn

The competitor’s launch post and the customer’s announcement. It is where a competitive move becomes public, and where your sales team is already spending its time.

X

Fastest to react on, and where a competitor’s pricing change or outage becomes visible first. Low signal per post, high value per hour saved.

Google News

Funding, acquisitions and coverage — the competitive context that turns up on a sales call and that nobody wants to hear about for the first time from the prospect.
[03] WHAT TO TRACK/ KEYWORDS

Four keyword shapes that work here

A keyword is a search FishOut runs continuously across every platform you have enabled — a Brand, Competitor or Topic keyword, with an optional Means… line and filters that apply before any AI reads a post. The shapes below are ordered by how much they tend to be worth, which is almost the reverse of the order people add them in — a brand name is the first one everybody adds and the smallest source of anything new.

competitor brand names

The highest-value shape for this team. Someone unhappy with the incumbent has already done the expensive part of the decision, and a complaint or negative post on a competitor keyword — the built-in Switchers view — is the cleanest buying signal in the product.

<competitor> pricing / <competitor> alternative

Explicit switching intent, low volume, worth its own channel and its own agent. This is the keyword that justifies the subscription in the first month.

category phrases

People describing the problem without naming a product. Slower to convert but far less contested, and it is where the content team gets its next three briefs.

your own brand plus a complaint word

The support slice: a Brand keyword set to "must also mention" broken, down or cancel. The built-in Support view collects it, and an alert to on-call keeps it out of the marketing queue where it does not belong.

[04] HOW TO SET IT UP/ VIEWS AND AGENTS

The setup that survives a busy month

An agent is a rule you write: when a post matches conditions on relevance, label, Reply call, sentiment, keyword or platform, then label it, assign it, notify a channel or draft a reply. None ship pre-built. The one below is the one worth writing first for this job, and it takes about a minute.
1

Give each function its own view and its own channel

Sales works from Leads and Reply now, competitive intelligence from Switchers, support from Support — all four are built in. Each function gets an alert channel with its own relevance floor. One channel doing all three jobs is the setup that gets muted.

2

Assign on arrival, not in a meeting

Agents you write assign a post to a person as it lands, so the queue has owners rather than a backlog. A row with a name on it gets answered; a row in a shared list does not.

3

Describe the labels only your team cares about

Plus includes three labels you describe in a sentence — "Pricing objection: someone says a tool costs too much" — and the AI applies them from then on; manual labels are unlimited. When it gets one wrong, mark Not for us or fix the label, and your recent corrections go into its next reads.

4

Use the drafts, edit the drafts

A draft in your project’s Voice, adapted to the platform and checked for claims you cannot back up and for saying who you are, that a human edits and sends from their own account. FishOut never posts — an automated reply in a community thread costs more than the lead is worth.

When a post on a competitor keyword is labelled Complaint

Then send it to #sales, assign it to whoever owns competitive deals, and draft a reply

[05] WHEN WE ARE THE WRONG ANSWER/ HONESTLY

Sprout Social may suit you better

If the job includes publishing and scheduling as well as listening, Sprout Social is a full social media management suite and we are not — we do not post anything, anywhere, by design. It is $99 per seat per month against our flat $49, so the maths depends entirely on team size, but a team that needs one tool for publishing and listening should not buy two.

What this costs. AI triage is on every plan. Plus at $19/mo covers 50 keywords, 5 of them on LinkedIn, TikTok or X, with agents and 300 reply drafts a month. Pro at $49/mo covers 200 keywords, 15,000 relevant mentions and 1,500 drafts — room for a whole team’s queue.
