Check where your brand was mentioned this week

Type a brand, product or competitor. In a few seconds you get a count for each of four platforms over the last seven days, the whole-word number beside the raw one, and links to the threads worth reading.

These are whole-word matches before AI triage. FishOut counts only the posts it judges relevant toward a plan — Free covers 500 a month — and filtered noise never counts.

[01] HOW THE COUNT IS MADE/ METHOD

Hacker News: scaled to whole words

One time-filtered Algolia search returns the week’s total and the newest hundred stories and comments. Algolia matches prefixes and typos, so we count how many of those hundred contain the name as a whole word and scale the total by that share.

Bluesky: the newest hundred

Bluesky’s public search returns one page of a hundred posts and refuses to page further without signing in. When the week holds more than that, the count says “100+” instead of guessing the rest.

GitHub: issues and pull requests

GitHub’s issue search finds the quoted name in titles and bodies, minus Dependabot and Renovate. Bodies count, so a pull request that bumps your package shows up too — the issue and PR split tells you which kind you are looking at.

Google News: a count and a link

Headlines from the past seven days whose title carries the name. Google offers that feed for personal use, so you see the number and a link to Google’s own search, not the headlines.
[02] WHAT TO DO WITH THE NUMBER/ TRIAGE

The count says how loud. Triage says which to answer.

A weekly number tells you whether a name is talked about at all. It cannot tell you that one of those posts is somebody asking which tool to buy. In FishOut every match is read against your Brief and comes back with a relevance, labels and — on Hacker News — a Reply call. How relevance works.

[03] STEP BY STEP/ 5 STEPS
1

Check the name as people write it

Use the spelling your users type, not the legal entity. Whole-word matching ignores case, so “ghostty” and “Ghostty” are one search.

2

Read the gap between raw and whole-word

A big gap means the search engine is matching other words that start the same way. That is noise you would pay attention to by hand.

3

Open the threads to read

The newest whole-word matches link straight to the story, issue or post. Comments show the title of the story they sit under.

4

Check a competitor the same way

The same seven days on the same four platforms make the two numbers comparable. For a share across several brands, use the share of voice calculator.

5

Turn it into a monitor

Watch the keyword free and FishOut checks it every hour, judges every match and sends the ones that clear your bar.

[04] THE SAME CHECK, EVERY HOUR/ IN THE PRODUCT

The same check, every hour, already sorted

In the product this search runs on its own and lands in an inbox sorted by what needs you: views for Reply now, Leads and Support, and one post open with the reasons behind its relevance. Free: 10 keywords on Reddit, Hacker News, Bluesky, GitHub and Google News, checked hourly, 500 relevant mentions a month and a 2-day backfill on each new keyword.

Ask HN: What terminal are you using in 2026?

Default terminal is fine but slow with big logs. What are people switching to, and is it worth it?

Answer the question; say who you are

Draft reply

I work on Acme Terminal, so weigh this: if big logs are the pain, a GPU-rendered terminal is the fix, whichever one you pick.
